THE FUND OF FINE ARTS

The theme of the artistic expression of the Roma has been in the focus of the Museum of Romani Culture since it was established in 1991, and we have gradually managed to create a collection which is solid in terms of quality and number of items and reflects the artistic expression of the Roma. The first solo exhibition of the Fund of Fine Arts was organised by the Museum of Romani Culture in 1997, presenting the work of 13 amateur authors. As the fund gradually expanded, the Museum prepared another, extended exhibition, presenting 27 authors, including some professional ones.

The Fund of Fine Arts includes also the work of non-Roma artists who depict Roma issues in their work.

The Fund of Fine Arts includes folk art, paintings, drawings and sculptures.

The Fund has been presented in many solo exhibitions:

1997 – E luma romane jakhenca – The World Seen Through the Eyes of the Roma – a successful travelling exhibition in the Czech Republic and the world

2004 – extended version of the exhibition E luma romane jakhenca – The World Seen Through the Eyes of the Roma

2008 – The Roma statue

2008 – Embroidered life – Život jako vyšitý (embroidered paintings by Markéta Šestáková)

2010 – Plátna pro velké černé oči (Canvas for Big Black Eyes). Gypsies in the work of Míla Doleželová

2014 – Století pohrom, století zázraků Rudolfa Dzurka (The Century of Disasters and Miracles by Rudolf Dzurko)
