Access to the museum’s spaces for persons living with disability

Parking

The museum has one parking space reserved for it immediately in front of the building. Should it be occupied, it is possible to use other parking spaces on Bratislavská or adjacent streets. The neighbourhood is in parking zone C. Parking must be paid for Monday through Friday between 17:00 and 06:00.

Entering the museum

There is a ramp for wheelchair users and steps in front of the covered entryway to the building. The entrance is a double door that is wide enough for pedestrian and wheelchair access and there is plenty of room to manoeuvre both in front of the entryway and after entering. When entering with a pram or wheelchair, it is appropriate to press the bell marked “Reception” and to wait for the receptionist to come serve you (the double doors are heavy and massive). The receptionist will open the door (both doors in case of need). The bell is located to the left of the main entryway.

After entering the museum, there is a very visible reception desk with a raised counter located on the left. The receptionist may come out from behind the reception counter should that be required for better communication and to accept payment.

The café is wheelchair-accessible and located on the ground floor of the museum. The offices of the museum are located on the third floor. The conference room and most offices are accessible by elevator and wheelchair-accessible.

The Library is located on the building’s second floor and is accessible by elevator. There are double doors that are sufficiently wide for wheelchair access at the entrance to the Library.

Elevator

The elevator is available for persons living with disability and persons with prams or small children, etc. To take the elevator up it is necessary to ask the receptionist to call it, but the elevator is self-service for the return to the lower levels.

There is enough room to manoeuvre in front of the elevator and inside it. There is a folding seat inside the elevator on the left-hand side. The buttons for each floor do not exceed a heigh of 140 cm from the elevator floor. The cabin is 1 meter 10 cm x 1 meter 40 cm large.

Exhibition spaces

There are three exhibition spaces at the Museum of Romani Culture.

On the ground floor there is an exhibition space in a multifunctional hall that is fully accessible by wheelchair.

On the first floor is “The Story of the Roma”, our permanent exhibition. To access that exhibition by wheelchair you can use the elevator; its automatic door measures 80 cm across. There is sufficient room for manoeuvre in front of the elevator. The exhibition is wheelchair-accessible, but the transition from the first to the second hall could cause a problem for wheelchair users, as the surface of the floor is padded and could complicate wheelchair use (the exhibition is designed in a circle, so that section can be avoided by traveling in the reverse direction through the exhibition).

There are more exhibition spaces on the second floor (for temporary exhibits), which are also fully wheelchair-accessible.

Restrooms

There are restrooms for men and women on all floors. The restroom with wheelchair access is on the ground floor.

The restroom with wheelchair access has its own entrance. There is a single door, 90 cm wide, labelled with this symbol: ♿. The door opens outward and is manually operated. There is enough room for a wheelchair in the cabin with the toilet, and that cabin is equipped with a handrail. The cabin with the toilet can be locked.
