The memorial to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust of the Roma and Sinti is located on an authentic site where the Protectorate's so-called Gypsy camp operated between 1942 and 1943. It was one of two places (the other was in Lety near Písek) where entire families of Moravian and Czech Roma and Sinti were forcibly concentrated before being transported to the concentration and extermination camp at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. The Museum of Romani Culture is the administrator of the site.
The site is open to the public seasonally from April to October, outside the main season the site is accessible by reservation.
OPENING HOURS IN HIGH SEASON:
1 April - 30 October 2024
Wednesday - Sunday from 10 AM–5 PM
In 2021, an extensive exhibition mapping the complex history of the camp was opened on the premises, entitled Camp Hodonín u Kunštátu: The Intersection of Tragic Fates 1940–1950. Apart from the exhibition, there are also interesting exhibitions in the memorial area, which change over time. At the same time, the memorial hosts a spectrum of cultural events every year - lectures, concerts, commemorative acts. We offer attractive educational programmes for schools.
