Grounds of the memorial

Information Centre

The Information Centre is the main building on the grounds of the memorial. It houses the reception desk, a multifunctional hall and the permanent exhibition.

The double glass doors at the entrance are mechanical. Each door is 84 cm wide. There is enough room for manoeuvre both in front of the entrance and once one has entered the space. There is a very visible reception desk on the right-hand side once one enters. The receptionist may come out from behind the reception counter should that be required for better communication and to accept payment.

The main part of the permanent exhibition and the multifunctional hall are located in the Information Centre and both are completely wheelchair-accessible.

Amphitheatre (part of the Information Centre)

The amphitheatre at the memorial is located outdoors and can be accessed in two ways. The first is through the Information Centre’s reception area, the second is from the gravel path in the upper part of the memorial. The amphitheatre features graduated steps adapted for use as seats. During the summer the annual commemorative ceremony, concerts and theatrical productions are produced in the amphitheatre. If wheelchair users wish to attend, the options for seating are either in the front row on the ground floor or the very highest seats at the back and top of the amphitheatre.

The Former Barracks for the Guards

The former Barracks for the Guards is downhill from the Information Centre in the lower part of the grounds. It can be accessed by the gravel path or the adjacent lawn. There is a single mechanical door in the entrance that is 90 cm across. To access the building there is one step to take and it is possible to position a ramp across it. Temporary exhibitions are installed in the former Barracks for the Guards during visiting season.

The Former Barracks for the Prisoners

The former Barracks for the Prisoners is located to the right of the Information Centre in the upper part of the grounds. Access to the building is down a gravel footpath. There is a single mechanical door in the entrance that is 90 cm across. To access the building there is one step to take and it is possible to position a ramp across it. A second part of the permanent exhibition about the life of prisoners in the concentration camp is installed in the former Barracks for the Prisoners.

Restrooms

The Information Centre at the memorial houses the restrooms. There is a restroom accessible by wheelchair (the access door is 90 cm across, the cabin housing the toilet measures 180 cm across and is 212.5 cm deep) with its own entrance, labelled with this symbol: ♿. The single mechanical door opens outward. There is enough room for the wheelchair next to the toilet in the cabin. The area around the toilet is equipped with one fixed hand rail and one folding one. The cabin housing the toilet can be locked.

Elevator

All buildings at the memorial are single-story. There is neither a chairlift nor an elevator. Stairs are part of the outdoor section of the grounds and the amphitheatre, but there are always alternative routes for access.
