The Department of Collections at the Museum of Romani Culture is chiefly involved in creating collections that convey the culture and history of the Romani people both intellectually and materially.
The department is in charge of classifying, inventorying and appropriately storing the collected items and presenting them to both experts and the lay public through exhibitions and publications.
The collection of the museum is registered in the Czech Republic’s Central Collections Inventory (Centrální evidenci sbírek – CES), where more than 28,000 items from the collection are registered.
The collection has five parts:
a) Romani-related subject matter (MRK);
b) Audio documentation (A);
c) Photographic documentation(F);
d) Video documentation (V);
e) Archaeology (G)
The collection as a whole is sub-categorized into 14 sub-collections.
The Department of Education and Lecturers produces publications about the Collections of the Museum of Romani Culture, in which it presents each sub-collection. You can see their specific publications here.
The historian is a member of the Department of Collections team and works on the history of the Roma as a subject.
Researchers can contact our documentarian about specific inquiries or themes at demus@rommuz.cz.
